Transportation as a catalyst for smart growth

How we provide, maintain and finance infrastructure is a key factor that will influence the sustainability of our cities in the future. The Urban Land Institute has identified infrastructure is a top policy priority as well, and we invite you to join ULI Toronto to hear about ULI’s 2008 Infrastructure Report (see the press release for a summary). ULI’s Senior Resident Fellow Robert Dunphy will be in Toronto share the highlights of this new report, prepared by ULI in partnership with Ernst and Young.

Tuesday, May 13th, 5:30pm – 7:30pm

The focus of this year’s ULI report will be the importance of infrastructure to a city or country’s economic competitiveness. Globally, the report looks at the infrastructure trends in Western Europe, Asia, and North America, with special attention to the fast growing urban regions in China and the United Arab Emirates. The report also compiles the results of research on 23 metropolitan areas in North America to determine whether their long range plans are capable of accommodating the large population increases expected over the next 30 years.

The event will focus on how transportation infrastructure can be used as a catalyst for “Smart Growth” In Ontario. The program will be of particular interest to participants in both the private and public sectors who are involved in the planning, procurement, construction and financing of intensified development and transportation infrastructure. With special Case study presentations by:

I’ve been to ULI meetings in Philadelphia & Chicago, and was impressed by both the turnout and speakers at the infrastructure event. Some very good insights were presented. I myself was shocked by the average tax rates on gas for Europe/U.S. Kind of puts the silliness of Clinton’s proposal to cut the gas tax in the U.S. in context. See you all at the next meeting!
